The Importance of Nurses On Hospital Boards

Recently, the Virginia Action Coalition's Leadership Workgroup produced a short video focusing on the important role nurses can play on hospital boards.

Therese Brosche's interview of Nancy Littlefield, the CNO of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center can be found at the link below - we invite other ACs to share this resource!

Virginia - Great job on sharing the perspective of a CNO and the value of a nurse on their hospital board. Do you have any information on whether hospitals see it as problematic in having one of their nurse employees serving? Are hospitals seeking nurses from within or outside?

Thank you Victoria--We recently sent a CNO Survey to hospital executives asking the same question. So far the responses are positive and CNOs are interested in meeting with our Leadership group to discuss the benefits of having a nurse on their boards. We are also featuring a half-day program on nurses in leadership as part of our upcoming Fall Conference. Details recently posted on our community news page.
