Ethel Percy Andrus, the founder of AARP, lived her life by the motto, “To serve, not to be served,” which remains AARP’s motto today.

A big part of the organization is about giving back to their communities and helping the 50-plus population live their best lives. AARP offers a number of volunteer positions for active and retired nurses. Check them out:

Nurse Mentor

Serve as a positive, professional role model for students enrolled in nursing schools at federally designated Minority Serving Institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-serving institutions, and American Indian/Alaska Native- serving schools.

Patient and Family Advisory
Councils Peer Network

PFACs greatly impact patient care and the caregiver experience. We are working to get nurses placed on Patient and Family Advisory Councils and connected to a peer group support team facilitated by AARP volunteers and staff.

Be a Nurse Influencer

The Nurse Influencer role is designed to make a significant impact by sharing timely information through social media. This is a great opportunity for any nurse who wants to make a difference in their spare time.
