Summary

More than 20 people took part in a discussion that began with Regina (Gina) H. Johnson, MSN, RN, clinical instructor faculty at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, talking about ”The Preparation
of Community/Public Health Nurses: Amplifying the Impact,” a paper that she and colleagues from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Toledo published in Public Health Nursing.
That gave rise to exchanges about

• the role of simulation in community health courses
• how people are defining “social determinants of health”
• the importance of global health
• precision population
• the role of nurses’ perspective (“nursing brain”) in these multisector efforts.

Discussion also included: County Health Rankings (from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute), the Poverty Simulation Tool (such as this linked to, from Missouri), and the NCLEX and American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials.
