Summaries of 2019 Campaign Regional Meetings

The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action held three regional meetings last summer and fall to complement meetings of the National Academy of Medicine’s Committee on the Future of Nursing 2020-2030.

Each meeting focused on a different topic: innovation, healthier communities, and policy. Below you will find the meeting summaries and transcripts.

Innovation in Health Care

Location: Seattle, Washington

Dates: August 7-8, 2019

Objectives included:

  • Discuss the role nurses play in improving the health of individuals, families, and communities by:
    • Addressing social determinants of health.
    • Providing effective, efficient, equitable and accessible care for all across the care continuum.
    • Identifying the system facilitators and barriers to achieving this goal.
  • Focus on innovation and the ability of nurses to serve as change agents in creating systems that bridge the delivery of health care and social needs care.

Pathway to Policy: Nurses Driving Change for a Healthier America Meeting

Location: Princeton, New Jersey

Dates: October 15-16, 2019

The goal was to empower and deploy nurses to build a Culture of Health.

Objectives included:

  • Raise visibility and impact of nurses leading in public policy.
  • Increase nurses’ capacity to improve health in the community through public policy.
  • Analyze state policies and the role of nursing.
  • Empower nurses to lead in building multi-sector partnerships.

Better Schools, Better Communities for a Healthier America Meeting

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana

Dates: October 2-3, 2019

Objectives included:

  • Discuss the role school nurses play in addressing the social determinants of health to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Identify system facilitators and barriers to achieving this goal.
  • Encourage school nurses and the systems in which they work to serve as change agents in bridging the delivery of health care and social needs care.
  • Inform participants about innovations, stakeholders, and data needed to address the health of our nation.
  • Explore models and partnerships to maximize effectiveness of school-based health.
