Developing a Shared Agenda to Achieve Health Equity: What Does it Mean for Nursing? Webinar

May 10, 2023

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET

In Recommendation 1 of The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity Report, professional nursing organizations were called on to initiate work to develop a shared agenda for addressing social determinants of health (SDoH) and achieving health equity. The Tri-Council for Nursing, the Council of Public Health Nursing Organizations, Federal Nursing Service Council and the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations were singled out to collaborate and develop a shared agenda. There was an assumption that professional nursing organizations were not sufficiently engaged in efforts to address SDoH, health equity, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and structural racism within, across and external to nursing organizations.

Efforts to Date: The four organizations first conducted an assessment to describe work being done by professional nursing organizations, identify barriers and resources needed to carry out the work described in Recommendation 1.

Webinar Expectations: Presenters shared survey findings that focus on health equity, SDoH, structural racism, and DEI, update participants on the resource repository, and devote the majority of the time to an open, facilitated dialogue with participants to explore steps in the journey to health equity.

 Webinar Objectives:

  1. Provide a space to support the discussion of individual, group, and organizational experiences around controversial issues related to the challenges to achieving heath equity and summarize key issues and findings from the discussion.
  2. Discover the work completed by four organizations named in the FON2020-30 Report Recommendation 1 and consider how it might inform a shared nursing agenda for addressing SDoH and health equity.
