FDA’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility: AIAN Initiative

Presenters:

Lieutenant commander (LCDR) Gladys Williams is an active-duty pharmacist with the United States Public Health Service. One of the 8 uniform services of the United States. She served for ten years with experience working as a clinical pharmacist with Indian Health Service on the Navajo Nation in Arizona, Program Analyst with Homeland security Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She currently works with the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology (OSE) as a Project Manager and a Contracting Officer Representative with Regulatory Science Staff. LCDR currently serves as the workgroup team lead for the OSE DEIA HBCU initiative.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time as a new mom with her nine-month-old daughter, her family, and taking road trips when she can.

Lieutenant Chiemena Anyanwu has been an Active Duty Commissioned Nurse Officer in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) since September 2016. LT Anyanwu started her career with USPHS through their Senior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program (SRCOSTEP) where students entering their final year of graduate school or professional training commit to serve in medically underserved communities for at least two years upon graduation. LT Anyanwu was detailed to a federal prison in Houston Texas as her first assignment where she served for almost three years as a staff nurse.

Currently, LT Anyanwu is detailed to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition’s (CFSAN) Office of International Engagement (OIE) where she serves as an International Policy Analyst working on programs for partnerships between the U.S. FDA and foreign regulatory counterparts, to increase food safety globally. LT Anyanwu leads the United States Government (USG) comment process for measures notified to the World Trade Organization concerning food, cosmetic and dietary supplements, on behalf of CFSAN. Additionally, LT Anyanwu serves as OIE’s Communication Manager, coordinating with FDA’s communication team and OIE staff to execute outreach to internal and external stakeholders on FDA updates and announcements. Furthermore, LT Anyanwu also serves as the lead coordinator for the review and response to inquiries, documents, and meeting requests from other USG agencies and foreign regulatory counterparts, regarding FDA’s polices and regulations on CFSAN managed commodities and programs.
