The Sullivan Report on Diversity

Missing Persons: Minorities in the Health Professions, a 2003 report by the Sullivan Commission on Diversity in the Healthcare Workforce, highlights the stagnation and imbalance in diversity of the nation’s physicians, dentists, and nurses. The Institute of Medicine included the Sullivan report in its assessment on diversity in The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. The report proposed new approaches and a new model for making the health professions workforce more diverse to improve the overall health of our nation. The commission was named for former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Louis W. Sullivan, M.D., and was composed of 16 health, business, higher education, and legal experts and other leaders.
