The Relative Geographic Immobility of New Registered Nurses Calls for New Strategies to Augment That Workforce
This article, published in Health Affairs, shares the 2009 survey findings of 1,500 newly licensed registered nurses in 15 states who passed the National Council Licensing Examination between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008 and reveals low mobility among new nurses. In fact, next to teaching, nursing is one of the least mobile professions for women, for reasons that remain unclear.
