AARP Insight on the Issues: Removing Barriers to Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Care: Hospital Privileges

When given hospital credentials and privileges, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) can improve access and care and help prevent rehospitalizations.  Allowing APRNs to conduct hospital admission assessments can potentially decrease costs, expedite treatment by eliminating the need for physician sign-off, and allow physicians to focus on specialized services.
