Peter Reinecke, Principal of Reinecke Strategic Solutions, Inc., is a senior advisor to AARP and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action. He advises the Campaign and AARP on health policy and advocacy matters and in carrying out the Campaign. Reinecke has been a leading health policy expert for over 30 years, having spent over 20 years in senior Congressional staff positions. During this time he played a key role in enactment of numerous pieces of health legislation including Medicare and health reforms, the establishment of the National Institute on Nursing Research and three other NIH Institutes and centers, nursing home reforms, the end of mandatory retirement, and 15 years of budgets for the Departments of Health and Human Services, Education and Labor. He served many years as Chief of Staff and Legislative Director to U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, staff to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and Research Director for the House Subcommittee on Health and Long-Term Care. He has also served as professional staff member at the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences and a Visiting Lecturer in health policy at Duke University.
