On June 3 and 4, 2021, the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action assembled key opinion leaders, experts, and change makers across the fields of health care, nursing and health equity. The goal: Build actions plans to operationalize the National Academy of Medicine’s Future of Nursing 2020 2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity report.  The draft workplans are examples of how each recommendation may be addressed.

The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action held three regional meetings last summer and fall to complement meetings of the National Academy of Medicine’s Committee on the Future of Nursing 2020-2030.

Innovation in Health Care

Location: Seattle, Washington

Dates: August 7-8, 2019

Objectives included:

  • Discuss the role nurses play in improving the health of individuals, families, and communities by:
    • Addressing social determinants of health.
    • Providing effective, efficient, equitable and accessible care for all across the care continuum.
    • Identifying the system facilitators and barriers to achieving this goal.
  • Focus on innovation and the ability of nurses to serve as change agents in creating systems that bridge the delivery of health care and social needs care.

Pathway to Policy: Nurses Driving Change for a Healthier America Meeting

Location: Princeton, New Jersey

Dates: October 15-16, 2019

The goal was to empower and deploy nurses to build a Culture of Health.

Objectives included:

  • Increase nurses’ capacity to improve health in the community through public policy.

  • In this case, a watch party is a way for people to view an event online in real time. Participants can simultaneously watch the event and discuss with your colleagues/guests.

Who should host a watch party?

  • Anyone who cares about the future of nursing. The Campaign encourages Action Coalitions and friends to host a watch party to view the National Academy of Medicine’s study committee as it gathers insights on how to advance the nursing profession to help our nation create a culture of health, reduce health disparities, and improve the health and well-being of the U.S. population in the 21st century.

Tips for Hosting a Successful Watch Party

  • Register for the livestream in advance.
  • Get your invitations out early and cast a broad net – invite friends, stakeholders and supporters to attend.
  • Submit information about your event.
  • Do a tech check before the webcast to make sure all your systems (i.e. audio, projector, etc.) are in working order.
  • Provide light refreshments for attendees, if your budget allows.
  • Send a reminder to attendees about your watch party the day before the event.
  • Print and post this crowd release at your event so that photos you take can be used by the Campaign.
  • Get social – during the town hall join the conversation using the #FutureofNursing2030 hashtag on Twitter!
  • After the event, send us your photos so we can feature them on the Campaign’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
