As the coronavirus pandemic stretches deep into a second year, nurses continue to serve on the front lines, treating and caring for increasingly sick, increasingly young victims of the virus.

Nurses have been tested, and the nurse workforce is stretched to its limits. But help may be on the way. The number of people entering nursing schools in 2020 surged, with more than 250,000 students enrolled in baccalaureate RN programs, training to join the ranks of the profession.

Our debt to the nurses who have served during this public health crisis, often at the expense of their families and their health, can never be repaid.

HOW TO HELP:

We have compiled ways people can help, stay safe, express gratitude and support nurses and other health care providers. If you have a resource or idea you want to share, please send it to us.

Stay safe:

Follow the CDC guidelines for wearing a good mask, washing your hands and maintaining social distance, even if you are vaccinated. New COVID variants are more aggressive and dangerous.

Help others:

Donate blood, as the Red Cross says there remains a critical shortage. You can also find volunteer opportunities through United Way, Feeding America, and other organizations.
