Leadership Learning Collaborative Teleconference: Mentorship

Leadership Learning Collaborative teleconferences are designed to connect state Action Coalitions with people, ideas and programs that are preparing nurses to lead. The calls offer a discussion forum around topics most relevant to the leadership work that is happening within states or nationally.
On this call, representatives from Sigma Theta Tau International and the Michigan and New York Action Coalitions discussed their experiences building Mentorship programs. Presenters included:
- Barbara Given, PhD, RN, FAAN, Director of the PhD Program for the College of Nursing and the Interim Director of the Center for Innovation and Research a partnership between Sparrow Health System and Michigan State University. Dr. Given serves on the Sparrow Health System governing Board as Vice Chair of the Governing Board and Vice Chair of the Quality Committee.
- Cynthia Vlasich, Director of Education and Leadership at the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. Prior to that, she was the Vice President of Professional Services for Gannett Healthcare Group. Ms. Vlasich has served as Chief Nurse of the American Red Cross, and chaired the Global Advisory Group for Nursing under the International Committee of the Red Cross. She also chaired the United States Federal Nursing Chiefs Council.
- Wanda Montalvo, MSN, RN, is an innovative executive nurse leader and consultant. She has provided leadership both at the state and national level as the Clinical Director for the NYS Diabetes Campaign and previous Chief Programs Officer for the Community Health Care Association of New York State. She has worked with the Department of Health and Human Services' Bureau of Primary Health Care as Northeast Director for National Health Disparities. Ms. Montalvo serves on several national committees: Partners Investing in Nursing’s Future, Chairs the Operating Committee for the National Diabetes Education Program, National Prevent Blindness in America, and the RWJF Future Nurse Scholars. In 2004 she was selected as a RWJF Executive Nurse Fellow and in 2012 as a Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar.
