Specifically, this privacy policy answers the frequently asked questions listed below.

In this policy, the terms “CCNA,” “we,” “our,” and “us” refers to an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The terms “you” and “your” refer to campaignforaction.org users, including you.

1. Do I have to submit any personal information in order to use campaignforaction.org?
You do not need to give us any information about yourself in order to access most of campaignforaction.org; however, if you want to receive email alerts and updates on CCNA and Future of Nursing Campaign for Actionevents and activities on the site, including receiving email newsletters, the only information you will be required to provide is your email address.

Again, you do not have to disclose any personal information if you do not want to.

2. Does campaignforaction.org collect nonpersonal information, using “cookies” or otherwise?
We collect other types of information that do not identify your name, e-mail address, or other personal characteristics. This “non-personal information” includes the number assigned to your computer whenever you access the Internet (“IP address”), and the type of browser you use.

We use this information to help us evaluate how campaignforaction.org is being used. Our primary purpose in collecting this information is to provide you with the services you request, and to evaluate and improve other services that we offer. By gathering this information, we can learn, among other things, how many people visit campaignforaction.org, which campaignforaction.org pages are the most and least popular, and which other websites are the most frequent referral sources for campaignforaction.org. We may also use this information for other purposes. For example, we may review demographic information, survey results, and statistical analyses of campaignforaction.org usage in order to help us evaluate, modify, and develop services that are likely to be of interest to our users.

We may also assign a “cookie” to your computer in some situations. Like an IP address, a “cookie” is a kind of online identification tag that allows us to recognize your computer each time you visit campaignforaction.org.

Cookies do not allow us to identify you by name, e-mail address, or other personal characteristics. We use cookies primarily to identify return visitors and make your campaignforaction.org experience more convenient.

We may use vendors for various purposes. For example, we may use a vendor to collect aggregate information about campaignforaction.org usage – such as the most visited pages and features. This vendor will also use cookies and transparent image tags to collect this information. Like cookies, image tags do not allow us or the vendor to identify you by name or other personal characteristics. These vendors do not collect any personal information from users on campaignforaction.org, and they do not share the non-personal information collected on campaignforaction.org with anyone else for any other purpose.

Web beacons are images embedded in a web page or email for the purpose of measuring and analyzing site usage and activity. CCNA, or third-party service providers acting on our behalf, may use web beacons to help us analyze site usage and improve the campaignforaction.org.

If you are uncomfortable allowing cookies to be placed on your computer, read this article on campaignforaction.org that explains how to set your browser so that it will not accept these cookies, or so that it will notify you whenever a website is trying to use cookies. If you choose not to accept cookies, the full functionality of the site may be impaired for you, and you may not be able to use certain features of campaignforaction.org or linked sites. You will still be able to visit the general campaignforaction.org pages without cookies.

CCNA may ask you to participate in surveys designed to help improve campaignforaction.org. Any personally identifying information provided to CCNA in connection with any survey will be used only in relation to that survey. CCNA may aggregate survey data (such data will not include any personally identifying information) and disclose such aggregate data manner to CCNA users for purposes of comparison of their personal situation relative to the broader community.

3. Is any information shared with other companies or organizations, and can I “opt out”?
CCNA takes very seriously its responsibility to keep information about you confidential and private. We do not sell or rent any personal information about our users to telemarketers, mailing list brokers, or any other companies, except for those companies that help us operate campaignforaction.org. We contractually require all such companies to and maintain the security and confidentiality of your personal information and these companies are prohibited from using your personal information for any purpose other than providing the services specified in their contracts with CCNA.

If you do not want us to share your email address with these companies, you can notify us using the following methods, but, accordingly, our vendors will not be able to deliver the CCNA and Future of Nursing Campaign for Action email alerts or updates to you:

CCNA does not process unsubscribe or opt-out requests sent by postal mail.

We also may release personally identifying information or use non-personal information to identify a user when required to do so by law or when requested to do so by law enforcement agencies; when such action is necessary or appropriate to comply with legal process served on CCNA; to protect and defend the rights or property of CCNA or its affiliated companies and entities; or to protect the personal safety of users of campaignforaction.org. We reserve the right to contact the appropriate authorities in our discretion when users’ activities appear to be illegal or inconsistent with our policies. In the unlikely event that CCNA or campaignforaction.org is sold or otherwise transferred to another company, information about campaignforaction.org users might be among the assets transferred to the new owner.

Finally, we may sometimes share aggregate statistics and non-personal information with the media, government agencies, advertisers, and other third-parties. For example, we may publish statistics on the number of users in various states or the number of total users of campaignforaction.org. These aggregate statistics will not allow anyone to identify users’ names or other personal information.

4. What privacy policy rules apply when I “click” over to other websites?
Campaignforaction.org includes links to other websites. Other sites may also collect personal information, and may have their own privacy policies that differ from, and are not covered by, this Privacy Policy. It is important that you review and understand the privacy policies posted on any linked sites you visit before volunteering any of your personal information or using any services or programs offered on such sites.

When you click to unaffiliated third-party sites, CCNA is not responsible for, and has no control over, the information collection or privacy practices of these sites. These sites may also collect cookies, or allow third-party advertisers on their sites to collect cookies. You can often find information regarding a site and its privacy policy on the site’s home page. If you cannot find or do not like a site’s privacy policy, you may prefer not to do business with, or offer information to, that site.

5. How does campaignforaction.org protect security and confidentiality?
In order to protect your personally identifying information (an email address, for example), we use technologies and processes such as encryption, access control procedures, network firewalls, physical security, and other measures. These measures increase the security and privacy of information traveling to, from, and within campaignforaction.org. Only our authorized employees or agents carrying out permitted business functions are allowed to access personal information. Employees who violate our privacy access policies may be subject to disciplinary actions, including termination when appropriate.

This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we currently collect, and the ways we use and protect that information. If you are uncomfortable with our policies and practices, please do not provide any personal information to us through campaignforaction.org.

If at any time you would like us to delete the personal information about you that we have collected, please contact us using the information in the “For More Information” section above. At your request, we will permanently delete your email address from our primary production servers that we use to operate campaignforaction.org. Information about you may remain on our archive and backup servers that we use to ensure continued availability of campaignforaction.org in case of a problem with our primary production servers. Aggregate statistical data derived from your profile or your use of campaignforaction.org may remain on any of our servers, but such data will not contain any personally identifying information about you.

From time to time, we may collect different types of information and use that information in different ways – for example, when we add features or services to campaignforaction.org. In these cases, we may edit this Privacy Policy to explain the new practices and will list the date on which the policy was last updated.
