Mason Blogs on Access to Care; Ongoing Battles Over Scope of Practice

Diana Mason, PhD, RN, a member of the New York Action Coalition, recently wrote a blog post titled “Access to Care and Ongoing Battles over Scope of Practice” on the JAMA Forum

“More than 7 million Americans have signed up for private health insurance under The Affordable Care Act (ACA), and millions more gained coverage under the ACA’s expansion of Medicaid,” she writes. “This is a great achievement, but will they have access to care?”

The post discussed the discrepancies between the states regarding differing scopes of practice, the history regarding the controversy of scope of practice for nurse practitioners, the evidence on quality that nurse practitioners provide, and team-based care.
