NV and CA Action Coalition Leads Team Up

One great thing about this Campaign is the ability to share our successes, strategies and obstacles across state lines. With CA being one of the pilot states we have been around long enough to have something to share with newer Coalitions. Nevada is one of those states and we have been engaged in a dialogue around best practices for a couple months. Those conversations led to an invitation to go to Las Vegas yesterday to work with members of the Nevada Action Coalition. Linda Yi and Debra Collins and I got together for a "meeting of the minds" and we all came away with new ideas. It's important to recognize that when building something as enormous as the Coalition work that it takes time and thoughtful planning. I know many have expressed that this campaign has presented us with the opportunity of a lifetime but it's also important to remember that this is a marathon not a sprint. During the afternoon Debra Toney and I spoke at the Nevada Organization of Nurse Leaders about the Future of Nursing Campaign and the Action Coalitions. Dr. Toney gave an inspiring talk and encouraged the audience to think about what many of them are already doing relative to the report recommendations and it was wonderful to hear the report out from this group. There was lots of excitement and positive energy in the room. Nurse leaders in Nevada are doing a great job to move this work forward!! Thank you for inviting me and for the continued opportunity to share our work.

Mary, thank you for sharing this. I hope this community can be another place for sharing between state leaders like Debra and you - and others!

Debra A. Toney

It was great having Mary Dickow from the California Action Coalition as a co-presenter along with me at the Nevada Organization of Nurse Leaders conference on Sunday! Thank you for sharing your experiences and successes of the CA Action Coalition. Having a network of powerful leaders such as yourself and so many others lets us know we can to this critical work. The energy in the room was just what the Nevada Action Coalition needed and we are looking forward to the future! CA Action Coalition is a wonderful neighbor.

Debra, any ideas about how we can best utilize our resources at CCNA and via this website to provide the same rich discussion that you were able to have with CA representatives? It is such a common interest, that newly formed ACs are seeking guidance from those who have 'been there and done that'.
